Saturday
Today is cleaning out kitchen cupboard day .. quite a lot to do really.
Didn't have a good night's sleep last night cause my back was giving me quite a lot of trouble. Though managed about six all in .. did hope for a few more though. Didn't take all my oramorph yesterday though which might have added to the problems .. but not caused all of them .. was shaking a bit like I did the last time I had this back pain at night and I'd had my oramorph that night. Think it's something to do with stretching out.
I'll try a half hour of meditation this evening.
But .. for know .. better get those cupboards cleared .. and put away my new spices .. mmm .. I bought some whole star anise yesterday from one of the little shops on my way home from the docs. They smell so nice and just scented the bag out that I brought them home in. I bought some spices and dried lentils to go with the tinned tomatoes and spinnach. I saw the star anise and remembered that it's used as part of Tamuiflu to protect against bird flu .. obviously by itself it's not going to be a protection .. an acid is derived from it that is used in the manifacture of Tamiflu .. but wondered if it might just help slightly with my problems with colds .. probably won't. The Chinese star anise .. there are different kinds is the only one to use .. the Japanese one is inedible .. can help with queasy tummies so could help me that way .. it has a nice liquorice taste.
Best to use it just for cooking to rather than making tea. There was a problem some time ago with people becoming ill from drinking the tea though it's thought this was because they had used the inedible kind which contains anisatin which is toxic rather than the edible kind that contains shikimic acid the active ingredient in star anise that is grown in China. The edible kind is used in five spice powder and garam masala and used in the preparation of biryani. I have to be careful that I don't eat much spicey food now so I have to go for the star anise by itself .. though perhaps I could try mixing it in a dish with tumeric .. I can remember reading years and years ago that tumeric was thought to help guard against some forms of dementia by stopping platelets from sticking to the brain. Was sitting in the library just leafing through a copy of Disability Now and came cross this bit of information that has stuck in my mind ever since. lol!!!

is a good read about it.
Anyway, better get on with clearing the cupboards out.
